Once every few months, the Suncoast area’s finest blues music performers get together and give a full-throttle performance to raise money to help local charities.  Every event is performed on behalf of a different charity, and the spirit of giving comes alive in the local talent that performs.

Ladies Sing the Blues was founded by Steve Arvey and Rebecca Bird in 2011, to make the community aware of the amazing talent among women who sang, played, and dedicated themselves to following in the footsteps of Etta James, Janis Joplin, and Bonnie Raitt, just to mention a few.  The premier performance in 2011 at Ocean Blues, helped to raise money towards finding a cure for Breast Cancer.  The event was a huge success and a substantial donation was raised.

This performance gave birth to the second fundraiser, which took place at the Loft Ristobar  in Sarasota to raise money to benefit Rachel Hinkle and her family.  Rachel is a very loved and motivated young woman with disabilities who overcame a lifetime of obstacles to go on to attend Moody Bible College in Chicago.  Unfortunately, a home accident involving electrocution left Rachel in a near-vegetative state.  True to the miracles that only the Lord can perform, she is healing and working very hard to achieve each new baby step, and Ladies Sing the Blues was able to contribute towards satisfying some of the needs that Rachel and her family have faced.

There have been additional fundraisers at Ocean Blues, The Flying Dog Cafe, Primo- Ristorante and the Bradenton Elks Club where the performers sang and played.  It was heartwarming to see these local ladies raise their voices on behalf charities in our neighborhoods.

At some events there will be celebrity bartenders and blues fans will also be given a chance to donate, both by paying a cover charge at the door, and by giving a few bucks to the 50/50 drawings held at each event.  Ladies Sing the Blues is a unique opportunity to support local charities and enjoy a wonderful evening of entertainment and community spirit.

Look for notifications on Facebook and this website for the next event.  Play a part in contributing to a worthy cause as well as supporting this group of charity-minded musicians.
